Community Action to buy Smith building for $1 Winneshiek County
Winneshiek County plans to sell Decorah’s historic Smith building to Northeast Iowa Community Action. During Monday morning’s Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors meeting, NEICAC Director Trisha Wilkins reported that the NEICAC Board of Directors recently approved the purchase of the Smith building – located at 305 Montgomery St. – from the county for $1. The formal deeding of the property will require a public hearing at a later date. The board generally agreed to on a tentative transfer date of Sept. 3, and will continue discussions with NEICAC regarding the expected sale.

For the 2023-24 season, the Hawkeye men managed to pack a jaw-dropping 14,847 fans into Carver-Hawkeye Arena for each home dual. That’s more than double the number of fans at second-place Penn State, who managed to average a mere 7,337 fans per event while also winning the team national championship. This marks the 17th consecutive year the Hawkeyes have taken home the gold medal in fan turnout—talk about a winning streak!
