Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Sabres add some veteran depth to the goaltending position this upcoming season with the signing of James Reimer to a one-year deal worth $1 million.

This upcoming season will be Reimer's 15th season in the NHL after previous stops with the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks (twice), Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and, recently, the Detroit Red Wings.

In 501 career NHL games, the 36-year-old has compiled a 215-177-63 record with a career 2.88 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage and 30 shutouts.

Last year in Detroit, Reimer played 25 games in a backup role for the Red Wings, putting up an 11-8-2 record with a 3.11 goals-against average, a .904 save percentage and two shutouts.

In his most recent stint with the Sharks from 2021-23, Reimer was able to get a starter's workload once again, combining to play 91 games for San Jose with a 31-38-18 record, a 3.18 goals-against average, .901 save percentage and four shutouts.

Reimer's best season, to date, arguably came back in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season with the Maple Leafs, where he played in 33 games, going 19-8-5 with a 2.46 goals-against average, a .924 save percentage and four shutouts. He helped Toronto return to the postseason that year, where they lost in the opening round to the Boston Bruins in seven games.

Reimer joins a goaltending group in Buffalo that currently sees Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen as the No. 1 netminder, with Devon Levi waiting in the wings after a season that saw him splitting time between Buffalo and the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League.

The Sabres also added Felix Sandstrom in free agency this offseason, who is likely bound for Rochester to provide some goaltending depth behind whoever the starter is.
