AVOYELLES PARISH, La. ( WNTZ ) – A Bunkie man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Avoyelles Parish early this morning, authorities said.

This crash claimed the life of 62-year-old Joseph McGee of Bunkie.

Louisiana State Police Troop E responded at approximately 4:30 a.m. Friday to a crash on Dewey Bernard Road near La. 115. Investigators said a 2010 Jaguar, driven by McGee, was westbound on Dewey Bernard Road. For reasons still under investigation, McGee left the road, traveled down the ditch embankment and overturned. As a result, McGee was ejected from the vehicle.

McGee was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

In 2024, Troop E Troopers have investigated 34 fatal crashes resulting in 38 fatalities.
