There is no crime epidemic in Burnet, Burnet Police Chief Brian Lee pointed out.

Indeed, according to the FBI National Incident Based Reporting System, the number of violent crimes in Burnet has decreased more than 40% during recent years, from a high of 39 in 2014 to a low of 23 in 2022.

Also during recent years, the number of property crimes in Burnet has decreased more than 59%, from 154 in 2012 to 62 during 2022.

Most local crime tends to be committed in circumstanc-es where the perpetrator and victim are known by one another, Lee said.

“Lots of things can happen behind closed doors, and domestic- based crime can be hard for us to deter because of lack of visibility,” the chief added.

Be that as it may, locals and visitors should enjoy their upcoming eclipse celebrations, Lee said. “Burnet has a low crime rate, largely because of the population that lives here,” he added. “We have good people.”
