UPDATED SOUTHERN IOWA FAIR SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED FOR TONIGHT (7/16)
OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Fair Board and Extension Council announced last night that all events at the Southern Iowa Fair that were scheduled for 5:30pm or later were canceled due to the severe weather. The board released the updated schedule for today (7/16) on their Facebook page.
SOUTHERN IOWA FAIR BEGINS IN OSKALOOSA
OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Fair is kicking off its full slate of festivities today, with a week chock full of events through Saturday. Events that will be featured at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds each day include the Kids Zone, the tractor and engine display, the Globe of Death Squad Thrill Show, Bingo, and inflatables, which are open 4pm-9pm each day through Friday. The Fair Queen contest begins tonight at 6pm.

Pella City Council to Hold Public Hearings for Developments, Extensive Policy and Planning Session Tonight
The Pella City Council will hold a pair of public hearings for developments at their meeting this evening. The agenda includes ordinances and resolutions for a proposed EPCON Residential Urban Renewal Plan and for the Prairie Ridge West Planned Unit Development. Other actions include approval of a contract for West 9th Street Improvements, setting a public hearing date for a proposed development agreement with Courtyards Land Holding, LLC, and an access easement agreement with Kwik Trip. Policy and planning will include several topics for discussion, including a pickleball partnership request with Central College, a plan to move forward with either renovated or new soccer fields, an update about the South Central Regional Airport Agency, the demolition of the old Second Christian Reformed Church building, and a City Council norms procedure.

Knoxville Public Library Holding “Olympic Story Time” with Randy Wilson on Thursday
The Knoxville Public Library is holding an Olympic Story Time event with Randy Wilson on Thursday. This is an opportunity for kids in the community to hear stories from one of the greatest track and field athletes and coaches in Iowa history. Wilson will also talk about his experience qualifying for the Olympics in 1980, as we are approaching the 2024 Summer Olympics. Knoxville Public Library Director Roslin Thompson hopes kids in the community can come out to hear about Wilson’s experience.
THRIVE Knoxville Seeking Volunteers for Community Clean up Crew
THRIVE Knoxville is looking for volunteers for their community clean up crew. This crew meets on certain days in different locations in Knoxville to pick up trash and spruce up the local parks for visitors and community members. The group has met five times already and there are two dates left if you are interested in helping beautify the Knoxville community. The upcoming clean up crew dates are July 17th at the Knoxville Rec Center and Knoxville High School from 4:00-5:00pm and July 20th in the downtown area from 8:00-10:00 am. Katrina Nelson with THRIVE says that they normally do the clean up in the spring, but with big events coming up they decided to move it later.
