OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Fair hosted the 6th Annual Caleb Hammond Memorial Race on Wednesday, July 17th with a packed infield and a full grandstand on a beautiful night for racing at the Southern Iowa Speedway. The largest field of drivers in 2024 were in attendance gunning for their share of over $18,000 in prize money, thanks to the Southern Iowa Fair board and Race Committee along with event sponsors, Copeland Auto Body, Lathrop and Sons Supply of Albia and contributor Mike Stroehle.

Jackson Wentworth, a 2021 graduate of Waukee High School, has been selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2024 Major Baseball League (MLB) draft. While in high school, Jackson won 17 games as a starting pitcher, helped lead the Warriors to two state tournaments, and was ranked as the No. 2 right-handed pitcher in the state by Perfect Game. Coach Chuck Neubauer’s memorabilia returns to Gladbrook
GLADBROOK – The Gladbrook Museum was fortunate to receive recently a little bit of memorabilia that harkens back to the heydays of the Gladbrook school community. On July 8, Glen and Carol Neubauer of Westminster, Colo. set up an appointment to meet Gladbrook Museum volunteer Jeanne Paustian at the museum. Glen is the son of former Gladbrook High School girls’ basketball coach, the late Chuck Neubauer who passed away in 2002. Coach Neubauer began coaching in Gladbrook during the 1958-59 school year, leading the Panthers to two State Tournament Championships in 1959 and 1960. Glen was just four years old when his family moved to Gladbrook.
