    Cabool Police: Man arrested on alleged rape, child molestation charges

    The Cabool Police Department handled calls and incidents during the past week, including two domestic violence incidents.

    The department reported 26 traffic stops resulting in nine summons and 12 warnings issued. Five arrests for non-traffic offenses were made. One warrant arrest was made.

    At 3 p.m. Thursday, May 23, a single-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. 60 at the U.S. 63 interchange. A 2022 Ford Escape traveling west on U.S. 60 operated by Roger Halstead, 79, of Yukon, ran off the left side of the road and struck a fence owned by TMB Reed Farm Supply.

    On May 20, Christina Alset, 42, of Cabool, was issued summons for shoplifting in regards to a theft that occurred at the Garden Inn Truck Stop.

    On May 21, summons for domestic assault were issued to Bryson Massey and Alyssa Geyer following an altercation at a Blair Avenue residence. Geyer was also issued summons for first-degree trespassing.

    On May 22, the Cabool Police Department along with the Texas County Special Response Team arrested Tommy L. Smith, 55, of Cabool. A probable cause statement was sent to the Texas County prosecutor and a warrant was issued charging Smith with multiple offenses including: first-degree rape or attempted rape, first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy (victim less than 12 years old), first-degree child molestation (victim less than 12 years old), second-degree statutory rape, second-degree statutory sodomy and patronizing prostitution (greater than 14, less than 18). Smith is being held at the Texas County Jail without bond. Investigation began in February 2023.

    On May 24, officers issued Daniel McNally, of Bay, Ark., summons for stealing in reference to an incident at Dollar General in Cabool. McNally reportedly took a backpack which did not belong to him. A traffic stop on McNally’s vehicle was conducted by the Houston Police Department, and the backpack was found in McNally’s possession.

    In total, police handled one accident, one alarm, 10 animal complaints, two domestic violence calls, one juvenile matter, one mental instability incident, one peace disturbance, three stealing/theft incidents, four suspicious activity incidents, one unsecured building incident, assisted other agencies three times, gave one private escort and assisted the public twice.

    The fire department was dispatched 11 times.
