The Caledonia/Spring Grove track and field squads came to compete at the state level on Thursday and Friday, June 6-7, and they proved they belonged with the best of the best.

The Warrior athletes were up to the task and managed to, not only win first place individually in a good number of events, but the boys were able to dominate as a team, winning the title with 67 points in Class A.

The boys team sent multiple athletes to state, starting with the 100m dash. Josh Beardmore and Eli Staggemeyer both qualified for this event, and both were able to make it to the final heat. Josh Beardmore would ultimately take first place with a time of 10.87, and Eli Staggemeyer placed fourth with a time of 10.99.

The 4x200m boys relay team of Eli and Owen Staggemeyer, Gabe Curley, and Fischer Wait absolutely blew past the competition in both prelims and finals. They were able to take first place with a time of 1:29.28 for the win. The 4x100m boys relay team of Eli and Owen Staggemeyer, Gabe Curley, and Josh Beardmore took home first place as well with a time of 42.75.

Every placement for the Caledonia/Spring Grove team gave them an abundance of points toward the team award as well.

Fischer Wait performed in the 200m and 400m events, earning sixth in the 200m with a time of 22.56, and a third-place finish in the 400m with a time of 50.07. Ethan Stendel placed seventh in the high jump, obtaining a height of 6-04 in the event. Unfortunately, Josh Beardmore fouled on his attempts in the long jump, and did not place there.

Finally, in the discus, after throwing extremely well, Jordan Tornstrom was able to secure second place with a distance of 170-09, earning even more points for the boys team.

Overall, the Caledonia/Spring Grove boys track and field team ran away from the competition with its 67 points. The second-place team was behind nearly 30 points after the dust settled.

The girls team, meanwhile, made a strong showing of its own in the 4x200, which consisted of Losiah Gay, Chloe Lange, Sienna Augedahl and Nicole Banse. They ran well and placed 13 out of 21 teams in the event with a time of 1:49.15. The relay team had a great year and have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
