A Camarillo man died Sunday morning after a crash on northbound Interstate 5 in Linn County, Oregon.

Since then, a man from Woodburn, Oregon has been charged with manslaughter, assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving, according to the Oregon State Police.

A preliminary investigation determined the 23-year-old drove a Lexus GS northbound on I-5 when he rear ended a Toyota Camry near milepost 222 at 2:09 a.m. in Shedd, OSP said in a news release.

The 37-year-old driver of the Camry was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries and a passenger, Scott Alan Palmer, 53, of Camarillo, was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Lexus had minor injuries and was arrested, OSP said.

Traffic on the freeway was affected for about six hours as OSP troopers, assisted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation, investigated and cleared the crash scene.

OSP said the investigation is ongoing. Linn County lies about halfway between Eugene and Salem.
