HTL: Lake Mills knocked off by Cambridge 17-1

CAMBRIDGE -- After Jared Marty led off the home half of the fifth inning with a triple, Sam Mickelson drove him in with a ground out, giving the Blues a 2-1 lead.

From there, the floodgates opened as Cambridge scored seven more runs in that inning and added another eight runs in the sixth inning, earning a 17-1 win over the Lake Mills Grays in Home Talent League baseball on Thursday at Cambridge High School.

In the eight-run fifth, Tyler Kledzik hit a two-run single to score Tyler Carlson and Chase Jarlsberg. Kledzik, along with Connor O’Brien, then scored on a two-run single from Carter Lund.

Lund, Logan Koch and Marty also came around to score in the inning. Kledzik and Mickelson both drove in three runs for Cambridge (7-1, 4-1 in division games), while Lund and Jake Willey recorded two RBIs.

For Lake Mills (0-10, 0-5), Jasper Meeker plated Payton Klettke on an RBI single in the fourth, which gave the Grays a brief edge.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jarlsberg scored on a throwing error to tie the game at 1-1.

Sam Mickelson earned the win for Cambridge, pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts.

For Lake Mills, Caleb Housner started, allowing an unearned run on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. Klettke, who was tagged with eight runs (five earned) on eight hits in 1 2/3 innings took the loss.
