Cambridge broke the game open with five runs in the fifth inning en route to earning a 9-5 victory over Jefferson at Jones Park on Sunday in Home Talent League baseball action.

The division-leading Blues improve to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in division games while second-place Jefferson drops to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in division games.

Five Cambridge players -- Connor O'Brien, Tyler Kledzik, Carter Lund, Logan Koch and Jake Willey -- tallied two hits apiece.

Jared Marty and JT Parish combined to hold Jefferson to five hits while striking out 11. Marty started but did not factor, allowing three earned runs on one hit in 3 2/3 innings with four punch outs and four walks.

Parish tossed 5 1/3 innings of four-hit ball to earn the victory, allowing a run while fanning seven and walking three.

Haygen Miller's two-out two-run single in the fourth gave the Blue Devils, who were the visitors, a 4-3 edge.

Cambridge strung together five hits in the fifth, starting with Chase Jarlsberg's lead off double and a single by Koch. Parish then walked on five pitches to load the bases for Sam Mickelson, who laid down a first-pitch sacrifice bunt to bring Jarlsberg home.

Willey and O'Brien followed with consecutive RBI singles to chase Jefferson starter Ike Roth before Kledzik greeted reliever Jared Vogel with a two-run single on a fly ball to right field, which upped the Blues' lead to 8-4.

Jefferson got a one-out double from Aidan Kammer in the ninth. He scored when Roby Schlesner followed with a run-scoring double for the final margin.

Roth allowed eight runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Vogel then gave up a run on two hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Cambridge travels to face Evansville next Sunday at noon.
