    Roundup: Camden-Wyoming to face MOT in Major League finals tonight

    Camden-Wyoming posted a 15-6 win over Milford on Wednesday night to advance to tonight’s District I finals in Major League baseball.

    C-W (4-1), which won three straight games in the losers’ bracket, will take on MOT today at 7 p.m. in the finals.

    MOT is 2-0 in the tourney in Little League’s division for 11-12 year olds. Middletown has won the last two district championships and 19 since 2002.

    The winner of the district tournament moves on to the three-team state tournament, which is also being played at MOT.

    Earlier on Wednesday, Camden-Wyoming completed a 5-4 win over Smyrna-Clayton.

    The contest was the continuation of a game that was suspended on Tuesday night.

    MOT topped Milford, 8-4, on Tuesday evening to advance to the district finals.

    District III

    Lewes facing Milton for title: In Sussex County’s District III tournament, Lewes is facing Milton in the finals today at 7 p.m. at Millsboro.

    Milton would have to win twice to capture the district championship.

    8-10 tournament

    Camden-Wyoming 14, Milford 5: Camden-Wyoming’s win on Wednesday put it in the District I finals.

    C-W (2-1) will take on unbeaten MOT today at 7 p.m. at Milford needing to win twice to take the district title.

    The district champion earns a spot in the state tournament, which is being played at Canal.

    Softball

    Major League

    MOT 4, Canal 3: The Middletown squad won the state title with the victory on Monday night.

    MOT led 4-0 in the third inning before finishing 2-0 in the three-team tournament.

    Middletown moves on to the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bristol, Conn. where it is slated to play its opener on Sunday against New York at 10 a.m.

    College lacrosse

    UD women to play in ASUN: Delaware has accepted an invitation for women’s lacrosse to join the Atlantic Sun effective July 1, 2025.

    The Blue Hens’ men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs announced last week that they were also joining the league.

    Delaware will join Austin Peay, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Lindenwood, Queens and Stetson in the new nine-team conference.

    Since its inception in 1978, the Hens’ women’s lacrosse program has won three national championships, six conference titles, and had 34 All-Americans. The program has finished ranked in the top-15 nationally in the final polls on 12 different occasions.

    Delaware’s 10 wins in 2024 were the most since 2016, a season after the Hens returned to the postseason in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2018.

    The Hens will remain in the Coastal Athletic Association through the 2024-25 school year and will be eligible for both a league title and NCAA postseason competition.
