    Canton Woman’s Club offers Hall of Fame Grand Parade and Breakfast Buffet

    CANTON – The Canton Woman's Club's annual Hall of Fame Grand Parade and Breakfast Buffet will be Aug. 3 at 822 Market Ave. N. Club doors open at 7 a.m. There will be food options before and after the parade, plus free parking near the parade route for paid guests. Parking passes will be part of the reservation package.

    The cost is $43 per adult or $27 for children 12 and younger and includes reserved bleacher seats. Pre-paid reservations only. Payments may be received in the Canton Woman's Club office by cash, check or credit card. (A 3.5% convenience fee will be applied if paying by credit card.)

    The buffet menu consists of sticky buns, scones, parfaits, coffee, hot tea and juice before the parade. Breakfast buffet includes breakfast casseroles, scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, potatoes, sausage gravy and biscuits after the parade.     Kids movie Monday at the Palace

    CANTON – The Summer Kids Movie Series continues at 1 p.m. Monday at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, with a showing of “The Little Mermaid.”

    Admission is $2. Doors and the box office open at noon. A sensory-friendly showing of the movie will be at 6:30 p.m. The Summer Kids Movie Series offers affordable, family-friendly movies each Monday afternoon through Aug. 5. For a movie schedule, visit cantonpalacetheatre.org .

    County music dance July 14

    CANTON – Canton Country Music at the American Legion, 1633 Cleveland Ave. NW, will have only one dance per month, which will be the second Sunday of the month. The next dance will be July 14 with Kenny Falls Band providing music.

    Doors open at 1:15 p.m., and music is from 2 to 5 p.m. Food is available as well as a lottery tree and 50/50 drawing. The dance is open to the public. No alcohol or outside food is permitted.

    Movie at Centennial Plaza

    CANTON – The Centennial Plaza Movie Series continues at 7 p.m. Wednesday with a showing of “Luca” outdoors on Centennial Plaza, 330 Court Ave. NW.

    Admission is free. The movie will be shown rain or shine. In case of severe weather, the movie will be canceled. The Centennial Plaza Movie Series shows family-friendly movies at 7 p.m. each Wednesday through Aug. 14. For a list of other movies in the series, visit cantonpalacetheatre.org.

    Farmers market returns July 11

    5k run/walk and fun run to support scholarship fund

    LAKE TWP. – A fundraising 5K Run/Walk and a one-mile fun run for the Lake Community Hope Scholarship will be at 8 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Lake Community YMCA, 428 King Church Ave.

    The money raised will support the scholarship fund in memory of Lake Township residents Melissa Dunham, Renee Dunham, Amber Dunham and Evan Dunham.

    Early-bird pricing is available through July 13. Pricing ranges from $20 to $40 and is based on the registrant’s age and the length of race selected.

    The Dunhams died in August 2023. The surviving family, through the Stark Community Foundation, set up a scholarship fund to support Lake Local Schools, the school district that the three children attended and where Melissa was an alumna. The fund will provide monetary scholarships to Lake High School seniors beginning with the 2025 graduating class. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on engagement in extracurricular activities and community service beyond school.

    'Accessible Expressions Ohio' art exhibit at Massillon Museum

    MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery, 121 Lincoln Way E, is hosting the free traveling exhibition “Accessible Expressions Ohio” now through Aug. 18.

    A free, public reception for the artists will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 17.

    Presented by Art Possible Ohio, the state organization on arts and disabilities, Accessible Expressions Ohio is a juried, statewide exhibition and tour of visual art created by artists with disabilities. Each year, artists respond to the call for entries, entering in the categories of youth, emerging, or professional artists. If the artwork is sold, artists receive the full value they have set on their artwork. The diverse multimedia exhibit travels to accessible sites throughout Ohio from April through December.

    History discussion group to talk about food

    MASSILLON – Chris Craft will moderate the Massillon Museum’s History Discussion Group as participants discuss food from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

    Participants may want to bring food-related keepsakes from the past — a teapot, a baby spoon, photos of family dinners, grandma’s shortcake recipe, or an obscure kitchen gadget.

    The free event in the Fred F. Silk Community Room is free and open to everyone. Liebermann’s pastries and coffee are available for a donation.

    Museum accepting applications for contemporary art shows

    MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum’s Studio M is accepting applications for solo college student shows and for professional shows. Proposals must be submitted by July 17.

    The student process to apply for a three-week exhibition in early 2025 is open to any junior or senior art major attending a college or university in Northeast Ohio. Students who have graduated within one calendar year of application are also eligible.

    Professional artists may now apply for an exhibition of about six weeks in 2026-27. Solo entrants and groups of two or three artists will be considered. Artwork submitted should reflect a theme and be ready for installation. Delivery and pickup or shipping are the responsibility of the artist. Artwork may be for sale. The Massillon Museum will facilitate all sales transactions, retaining a 30% commission.

    Each entrant must reside east of the Mississippi and be a member of the Massillon Museum. New members are welcome at any time. Student membership ($10) and professional artist membership in a choice of several levels may be purchased as part of the application. Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable $25 entry fee. Artists are expected to be present at the exhibition reception and interview for a MassMusings podcast.

    Studio M is Massillon Museum’s dedicated space for the exhibition of contemporary artwork.
