The Desert Inn restaurant in Canton is now under new ownership

The Desert Inn has new owners, but it's remaining in the family.

Markos and Danielle Shaheen are now operating the Canton restaurant located at 204 12th St. NW, taking over from Markos' parents, Mark and Tina. The parents started the restaurant in 1970.

The Shaheens say they're passionate about great food, exceptional service and continuing the legacy of The Desert Inn. They're planning to make some fresh, exciting changes.

The pair announced the change in a Facebook post . “We value the tradition of The Desert Inn and you can expect the same delicious dishes you love, along with new menu items, special events, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.”

Danielle Shaheen stressed that she and her husband don’t want people to think everything will change.

“We are working on adding some new menu items, and additional special events," she said during a phone call on Monday. "We’ve done wine dinners in the past, and are thinking of perhaps adding bourbon dinners and more. New offerings are currently a work in progress.

“We can’t wait to continue to serve our existing customers and welcome new customers. We want the Desert Inn to be your favorite spot for dining and gathering."
