Investigators continue to probe a tragic workplace accident more than a week after a Cape Coral automotive worker died.

Cape Coral Police say a Complete Auto Care shop employee was trying to inflate a tire on Sunday. Once it was no longer inflating, the employee continued to add air, pressing down with their body weight. The tire, with the rim inside, blew.

The incident occurred at the Firestone off Skyline Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Friends of the employee have identified him as Rick Hanson to other news organizations.

As of Monday, Firestone and CCPD had not released the name of the victim nor is Bridgestone Americas, the parent company of Firestone. They are based in Nashville Tennessee. A LinkedIn profile under the same name lists the man's occupation as a Firestone store manager in Cape Coral since 2013.

"We are saddened to report that a Firestone Complete Auto Care store employee was killed in an accident on June 23," said Caroline Matis, the communications manager for Bridgestone Americas. Our deepest, most heartfelt sympathies are with the family, friends and colleagues of our teammate. We are working to determine the cause of the accident and are fully cooperating with local authorities as they conduct their investigation."

Community members have taken to Facebook to share memories and condolences. One post describes the longstanding loyalty a customer has due to the service they received.

The Firestone location has reopened, and OSHA is investigating the workplace incident.
