Driver Killed In Route 49 Crash In South Jersey (UPDATE)

A 72-year-old driver from Florida was killed in a crash along Route 49 in Atlantic County, authorities said.

Troopers responded to the crash at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, on Route 49 West at milepost 49 in Estell Manor, according to New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. Charles Marchan.

Based on a preliminary investigation, Mark Jones of Cape Coral, FL, was driving a Ford Escape when it traveled off the road and struck a tree, Marchan said.

As a result of the crash, Jones sustained fatal injuries, he said.

The crash remains under investigation.

All lanes of Roiute 49 were closed between Route 644 in Maurice River and Route 666 in Estell Manor, according to the NJDOT.
