In a tragic incident in Portland, Oregon, two adults and a teenager were killed after a power line, brought down by winter storms, fell on their car.

The electrocution occurred when they exited the vehicle, touching the ground and completing an electrical circuit through the car. One of the victims was reportedly set ablaze by the electric current. A two-year-old toddler, also in the car, survived the ordeal and was pulled from the arms of one of the deceased adults by a passerby.

The accident took place in the Russel Neighborhood of Portland around 11:45 am on a Wednesday. According to Portland Fire and Rescue spokesperson Rick Graves, the victims died when their feet touched the pavement, as electricity passed through the car, through them, and into the ground. The victims, who have not been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene. The condition of the toddler, taken to a hospital, remains unknown.

This incident adds to the growing number of weather-related fatalities in the Portland area. Since the onset of severe winter weather, the region has recorded at least ten deaths, including deaths from hypothermia and accidents involving downed trees and power lines. Amid these conditions, officials have issued warnings against approaching downed wires and advised staying in vehicles if a powerline falls on them, as the rubber tires can block the current.
