ST. PETE , FL - The Left Bank Bistro's Bastille Day celebration, beginning on July 13, promises an unforgettable weekend for guests in attendance. The celebration will offer a unique experience that reflects the shared values of liberty, equality, and fraternity that is deeply rooted in French and American traditions.

Bastille Day, officially celebrated on July 1 in France, commemorates a pivotal moment in French history: the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, which sparked the French Revolution. Similar to the American Independence Day on July 4, Bastille Day symbolizes the fight for freedom, equality, and the birth of a nation founded on democratic principles.

The Left Bank Bistro will kick off the celebration on Saturday, July 13, featuring live music by David Downing & Friends, Chef Specials, and a signature cocktail. The festivities will continue through July 14 with a unique selection of brunch offerings to mark the occasion.

"We want to celebrate independence at the Left Bank, highlighting how Bastille Day, though a French holiday, embodies the spirit of American freedom," shares Susanne Byram, Left Bank Restaurateur.

"With our Fourth of July just a week before Bastille Day, we aim to extend that spirit of independence throughout the month and beyond, especially during this election year when the theme of freedom is so prominent."

How Bastille Day Mirrors American Independence

Fight for Liberty: Both holidays commemorate revolts against oppressive regimes—American colonists fighting British rule and the French against the absolute monarchy.

Symbolic Acts: The storming of the Bastille and the signing of the Declaration of Independence both symbolize the collapse of tyranny and the assertion of self-governance by the people and for the people.

National Identity and Unity: Bastille Day and Independence Day both foster national pride and unity through parades, fireworks, and public celebrations.

Declaration of Rights: The French Revolution's Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen echoes the American Declaration of Independence, emphasizing individual rights and freedoms.

What to Expect at Left Bank Bistro - July 13-14

Beginning Saturday, July 13, the restaurant will host an evening of live music to unite the community in honor of this important French holiday. The celebration will include:

    • Live Music: David Downing & Friends will play a mix of contemporary tunes and their spin on popular 80s and 90s music, creating a festive atmosphere that captures the essence of Left Bank culture. Music begins at 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
    • Special Menu: LBB's Chef Jermaine has crafted a unique Bastille Day offering featuring an exciting array of entrees, appetizers, and his much-anticipated desserts. (and let’s not forget to toast the occasion with a coup of French champagne!)
    • Decorations: The restaurant will be adorned with French flags, blue, white, and red decor, and images celebrating the revolution.
    • Cultural Activities: Guests can look forward to engaging in activities that showcase French culture, including a trivia contest about French history, which will add an element of fun and learning to the celebration.
