CARMEL, Ind. – It’s all about the red, white, and blue in Carmel this week as the popular CarmelFest returns to the heart of the city.

“[I love] celebrating our freedom and living in America,” said Charlie Moore from Indianapolis.

“We are celebrating our freedom,” said Lynn Hein from Westfield.

“We get to celebrate our country,” said Colin Hein from Westfield.

CarmelFest is bringing people from all over central Indiana and all walks of life to celebrate the country’s 248th birthday.

“This is my first time actually being here but from what I have seen, it is absolutely just spectacular,” said Gracie White from Indianapolis.

The two-day festival is a tradition that’s been going on for more than 30 years now.

“We’ve been here quite a few times other than when COVID was around but love it up here especially with the bands,” said John Catellier from Greenwood.

Over the next two days, there will be live music and entertainment, rides and games for the kids, a beer and wine garden, 40 different food trucks and more than 100 vendors. By far, one of the favorite parts of the festival among the crows is the food and drinks.

[I love] all of the food,” said Kane Hein from Westfield.

“[I love] the corndogs and the elephant ears,” said Colin Hein.

“I got an Italian sausage hot dog,” White said. “10 out of 10! That’s all I can say. 10 out of 10. I would recommend it.”

But many festival-goers say, the most important part about CarmelFest is celebrating our country’s independence.

“Our independence depends on the men and women that serve in our service and I appreciate them every day as I did back when I was serving,” Catellier said.

The celebrations continue on the Fourth of July. The parade is happening at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. The festival is from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and the fireworks are at 9:45 p.m. For more information, click here.
