Kohl’s department store in Springfield will be one of the retail chain's 11 locations in Illinois to add a Babies 'R' Us franchise. Kohl's recently announced that the first Babies 'R' Us shops will open next month and will continue opening through the fall. The 11 Illinois store openings are part of a campaign to add Babies 'R' Us franchises to 200 Kohl’s locations nationwide.

The Deaconess Foundation aims to improve the health of the community and people of eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. The foundation invites applications for its Seeding the Future Grants, which support efforts that accelerate change in conditions and systems transformation through coalition and base building, grassroots advocacy, civic engagement, community organizing, and public policy development/change. Funding will be awarded to bolster organizational and civic infrastructure expansion, advance of public policies, and/or support efforts impacting systems transformation through an intergenerational approach for the improved health and wellness of people in eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. The grant is designed to cultivate a partnership pipeline for the Movement Transformation Cohort.

2 detained after man shot to death inside Arlington Heights apartment
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (CBS) — One man is dead after being shot inside an Arlington Heights apartment building Sunday afternoon.Around 1:40 p.m., Arlington Heights police responded to the 4200 block of north Bloomington Avenue at the Arbor Lakes Apartment Complex, just south of Bloomington and Lake Cook Road. After a resident called to report a man had been shot inside her apartment. Police arrived at the scene where the resident and gunman, who confessed to the shooting, were outside. Both were taken into custody for questioning.The victim was located inside the apartment on the ground level, near the back door, with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He died at the scene. Detectives say a past relationship between the resident and the victim was a possible contributing factor, and the resident had an order of protection against the victim.An autopsy will be conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday to determine an official cause of death. Police are investigating the incident as a contained occurrence with no threat to the public.No further information was immediately available.

Coach Tara Backes's softball team hasn't seen any serious competition all weekend at the State Tourney in Evergreen Park. Backes told us the 8 – 10 year old All-Stars beat Twin Rivers – in the early game Saturday – 10 – 0. Ekko Baima had a triple and eight out of eleven players provided hits. Quinn Holman pitched three innings and Maeve Brandt pitched one inning in the four inning game.
Pedestrian fatally struck on Bishop Ford Freeway
COOK COUNTY, Ill. - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on the Bishop Ford Freeway, shutting down all outbound lanes Monday morning. The pedestrian, who was a driver involved in a previous crash, was trying to cross traffic from their disabled vehicle in the middle lane when they were struck by a passing car around 2:23 a.m. near 159th Street, according to Illinois State Police.
Car Crash Kills Channahon Man On Friday
This is the office of Will County Coroner Laurie H. Summers reporting the death of Michael W. Thrasher a 36 year old Channahon man who was pronounced deceased at 12:10am Friday July 19th, 2024, at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center. Mr. Thrasher was involved in a motor vehicle crash on northbound I-55 near Channahon. The Illinois State Police are investigating the crash. An autopsy was performed on Friday July 19th 2024. Final cause and manner will be determined following Autopsy, Police and Toxicological reports.
City Launches West Side Door-Knocking Campaign To Combat Overdose Deaths
AUSTIN —The city is launching a new outreach program on the West Side in response to a spike in overdose-induced deaths at the hands of the city’s opioid epidemic. The program, dubbed the Summer Overdose Safety campaign (or Operation S.O.S), will deploy “trained outreach workers with a goal of covering the nearly 1,300 blocks of the West Side that experienced at least one overdose-related EMS response [in 2023],” according to a press release from the Chicago Department of Public Health.
