Chrissy Bartz was selected to be a member of the Caroline County Board of Education.

The board conducted interviews on June 4, and Bartz was selected from a group of highly qualified individuals to fill the vacant District 1 seat.

Bartz is the director of community based programs for Choptank Community Health. Currently she is the provider at the Greensboro Elementary School Wellness Center, while also supporting patient care in Choptank’s family practice, pediatric and migrant practices.

In her interview with the board, Bartz shared that she is applying for the seat in order to give back to the community and because her experience would bring a unique perspective to the work. She views the school system as the hub of the community, and finds communication to be key in remaining accessible to stakeholders.

“You (CCPS) are doing amazing things, and I would be excited to be a part of that,” Bartz said.

Bartz is a lifelong resident of Caroline County and graduate of North Caroline High School.

The vacancy on the board was created by the resignation of member Donna DiGiacomo, who was elected from District 1.

Bartz will serve the remainder of DiGiacomo’s term, which ends in November.

This report has been updated from an earlier version to correct an error in Bartz's swearing in date. Though initially scheduled for June 18, Bartz has not yet been sworn in.
