Caroline County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The body of a 51-year-old Richmond man was found by a citizen in the woods in Caroline County on Monday, prompting an investigation.

In a May 28 release, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office said a man was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a wooded area off Sparta Road, near its intersection with Tugnor Road, just before noon on May 27.

The citizen who found the body called 911 and informed authorities of what they had found. Deputies then responded and secured the area.

The victim – who was identified with FBI assistance as 51-year-old Reginald Terrance Holmes of Richmond – had been shot multiple times. This is believed to be the cause of his death.

“The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office is diligently investigating this incident, and using all available resources to ensure justice is found for the death of Mr. Reginald Holmes,” said Sheriff C. S. Moser in the release.
