615 properties on or near New Bern Avenue rezoned for Bus Rapid Transit line
615 properties on or around New Bern Avenue have been rezoned as the City of Raleigh prepares to start construction for the Bus Rapid Transit line.The old DMV building is one of the properties rezoned for mixed-use space at Tuesday's Raleigh City Council meeting.Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin said the zoning changes will offer more housing options."Density is key and the federal government is very excited for what we've done," said Baldwin.Lifelong Raleigh resident Angel Howard said the development comes at a price. NC Chinese Lantern Fest tickets go on sale
Tickets are on sale for this year's North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival, which will return to Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre in November. The annual event features more than 40 all new hand-crafted displays, each one comprised of hundreds of parts, and thousands of LED lights. Power back on for many customers in Durham, Wake and other counties after trees fall on power lines
Electricity has been restored to most customers across multiple counties in central North Carolina.Duke Energy workers spent the morning on Lakeview Drive clearing trees that fell on some power lines causing dozens to lose power.According to the Duke Energy outage map, only a few dozen homes lost power in that area because of it.Sunday night storms led to downed trees that fell or power linesThe peak of the outages was around 5:30 p.m., according to a Duke Energy map. The map now shows most across the Triangle should have their power back on.The severe weather also caused troubles at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. There are only a handful of delays and cancellations on Monday morning compared to the hundreds of flights on Sunday.This comes as Independence Day approaches.
