Ryan Reynolds' soccer club is coming back to Cary this summer for The Soccer Tournament.

Why it matters: The minor league Welsh club gained American attention following the docuseries " Welcome to Wrexham ," which follows the journey of Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney as they try to return the club to its former glory.

State of play: TST is a 7-vs.-7 event with a $1 million prize, running June 5-10 at WakeMed Soccer Park . Wrexham will have two teams, one playing in the men's bracket and another in the women's.

Flashback: Wrexham made its U.S. debut in Cary last summer, with a team composed of players, legends and others affiliated with the club, which is what can be expected of this year's TST roster.

    • They also played Chelsea in Chapel Hill in a summer friendly.

What they're saying: "Wrexham's involvement in 2023 helped put TST on the map and resulted in our event selling out," TST founder and CEO Jon Mugar said in a statement.

What's next: Squads for the men's and women's teams will be announced at a later date.

If you go: Tickets start at $35 for TST.
