The opening game of the 2024 college football season takes place outside the United States Saturday when No. 10 Florida State plays Georgia Tech in the 2024 Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland. This will be the third straight season of the College Football Classic with Northwestern and Notre Dame recording victories in Ireland over the last two years. FSU is coming off an undefeated regular season before missing the College Football Playoff and then losing, 63-3, to Georgia in the Orange Bowl. Georgia Tech went 7-6 last year for its first winning record since 2018. After going winless in their first eight matchups before 1990, Florida State is 15-4 over its last 19 games against Georgia Tech.

Florida State lost several offensive stars from last year's roster to the NFL, but it reloaded by landing Oregon State grad transfer DJ Uiagalelei . He has played in 48 games during his career at Clemson and Oregon State, going 30-10 in 40 career starts. Uiagalelei has a favorable matchup in his first start with the Seminoles, as Georgia Tech was among the worst defensive teams in the ACC last season.
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell added a pair of impactful transfers from Alabama in running back Roydell Williams and wide receiver Malik Benson , who are both sitting atop the depth chart heading into Saturday's game. Georgia Tech led the ACC in rushing offense last season, but it is facing an elite Florida State defensive line. The Seminoles have won 12 consecutive games against ACC opponents, while the Yellow Jackets are just 1-5 in their last six season openers. See which team to pick here .
Why Georgia Tech can cover
Brent Key enters his second full season as Georgia Tech head coach after leading the program to its first bowl victory since 2016 last year. The Yellow Jackets return key offensive pieces from that winning season and bowl game victory, including quarterback Haynes King . The 6-foot-3 quarterback completed 61.6% of his passes for 2,842 yards and 27 touchdowns while rushing for 737 yards and 10 scores. Georgia Tech also returns leading rusher Jamal Haynes , who rushed for 1,059 yards and seven touchdowns on 6.1 yards per carry.
Key has been a staple in the Georgia Tech program since returning as an assistant coach in 2019 after working as the offensive line coach at Alabama for three seasons and learning under coach Nick Saban and an always tremendous assistant coaching staff. That experience has seemed to benefit Key, who also played offensive line at Georgia Tech. Key has the program heading in the right direction and although Florida State always has a ton of incoming talent, they'll be without last year's starting quarterback Jordan Travis, who was drafted by the Jets, and laying double-digit points may be too steep for FSU's opener with an offense still learning to play with one another.
