Big Ten says Washington TE Quentin Moore was injured by ineligible player during Huskies win over Weber State

Washington tight end Quentin Moore was injured by an ineligible Weber State player in the Huskies' 35-3 Week 1 win over the Wildcats, the Big Ten announced Wednesday.

Facing first-and-10 near midfield, Washington tight end Quentin Moore ran an in route for an easy completion and appeared to have plenty of space in front of him. On the broadcast it appeared Weber State linebacker Garrett Beck suddenly appeared out of nowhere and undercut Moore, leading to an injury. The Big Ten reviewed the play and determined that After Weber State started the down with 10 men on the field, Beck ran onto the field from the sideline after the ball was snapped.

"With 8:03 remaining in the second quarter of Saturday's game between Washington and Weber State, a Weber State defender entered the field after the ball was snapped and eventually made the tackle following a 14-yard completion," the Big Ten said in a statement to On Montlake . "The late addition of the eleventh defender was not seen by officials. The play would not have been stopped in progress if the illegal substitution had been observed. At the conclusion of the play, a five-yard penalty from the previous spot should have been assessed to Weber State under Rule 3, Section 5, Article 2.a."

Moore had to be helped off the field and could miss multiple weeks, according to Washington coach Jedd Fisch. Washington submitted video of the play to the Big Ten office after clips went viral on social media showing the issue. While the Huskies receive public acknowledgement, Washington would almost certainly have declined the five-yard penalty after a successful 14-yard completion.

Moore, a senior, was projected as No. 1 on the depth chart after catching seven passes over the past two seasons. He transferred to his home-state Huskies in 2021 after playing the 2019 season at Independence Community College.
