New Aldi store and apartment building coming soon to Grandview

Typically we look around the city for development stories — but this one is different.

Last month, we asked for suggestions from CBUStoday readers on the top development projects they want to know more about. Nearly 20% of responses had one thing in common: Grandview. So, today we are taking a deep dive into one of the biggest construction projects in the neighborhood: The development along Fifth Avenue and Edgehill Road.

The timeline

This project has taken many twists and turns throughout the last four years, so we understand if your head is spinning. Here’s what you need to know:

• December 2020: Goodwill announced plans to redevelop its headquarters located at 1333 Edgehill Rd. with Elford Realty.
• May 2022: Those plans were scrapped after the nonprofit said construction costs were too high.
• September 2022: Elford pitched and received approval from local officials for new development plans at the former Goodwill HQ site.
• May 2023: Goodwill agreed to sell the former HQ to Elford for $11.3 million, who plans to redevelop the 5+ acre site.

Two-part project

Elford is now in control of the site, and they plan to add a new apartment building on Edgehill Road + an Aldi on the corner of Edgehill Road and Fifth Avenue. Here’s the scoop:

• The apartment promises to be big, according to plans approved in 2022. They will feature 250 units in a five-story high-rise building. It will also have an attached 250-car parking garage.
• The new Aldi will also be large at 20,000 sqft. According to a now-closed leasing listing , it should open this summer.
