CENTREVILLE — Bringing the community together for support, fun and education, local nonprofit Created In His Image Empire Inc. (CIHIE Inc.) invites everyone to connect at its inaugural fun festival this month.

Seeking to provide essential childhood experiences and support the community, the local nonprofit is raising funds to send local children to camp and reconnect with Queen Anne’s County as a community.

CIHIE believes in taking action with urgency and care to serve those who need us most, according to Director Marchelle Ryans.

“I wanted to do something to help the surrounding communities and to empower them and help them reach their goals,” she said.

CIHIE started in 2023 as a way to give back to the local community and raise money to provide children the opportunity to attend Camp Pecometh in Centreville.

Ryans said she knew first hand the struggles of not having the means to send children to camp and was determined to pay it forward.

Ryans has been working with elementary schools and guidance counselors to identify students who would benefit.

Ryans has a background in community nonprofits and over 30 years of experience in elementary schools and has served as a board of education finance clerk.

“I love being with children and their parents,” she said.

Through its first year, CIHIE has hit the ground running to acquire funding and spread the word about its essential work, she said.

CIHIE has already been warmly received by the community, whether through gracious donations or voicing their support for her while she is out and about through town, Ryans said.

And we’re just getting started,” she said with a smile.

With a focus on community involvement and empowering youth potential, CIHIE recently hosted a forum at the Kent Island Branch Library to introduce future graduates to the exciting world of aviation repair as a captivating career path.

Highlighting rewarding career opportunities available through trade schools, CIHIE welcomed aviation technician George Lanham, a Queen Anne’s County native to to lead the forum and discuss opportunities within the world of aircraft mechanics.

Landman will return to present during the CiHIE’s first Family Fun Festival as the community is invited to gather and share in the joys with those who also call the area home.

To really show the community what they can do, CIHIE is thrilled to invite everyone and anyone for its first free community day May 18, at the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center in Centreville, from 11 a.m to 4 p.m.

“This is a great way for us to reconnect with the community,” she said.

The festival promises an amazing day filled with food vendors, visits from local first responders, as well as activities and crafts for kids and even a bounce house.

“I’m very excited for that, I’m a kid at heart,” Ryans said.
