Adalia McKenzie on final year with veteran team: “Just leaving that legacy”

MAHOMET (WCIA) — When Adalia McKenzie isn’t working out with her Illini teammates this summer, the rising senior is leading workouts for kids in the area hosting camps as part of her internship with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It’s something McKenzie has wanted to do for a long time, giving back to the community through basketball, while also sharing her faith. She gets to do both with FCA, while also spending plenty of time in the gym working on her own game ahead of her final season of college ball.

McKenzie is one of the core four players returning to the team next season, alongside Makira Cook, Genesis Bryant and Kendall Bostic. The veteran group has high expectations after winning the inaugural WBIT title in April.

“It means a lot, having a veteran team it’s big. Being mature in the game and having a lot of experience it means a lot and hopefully we’ll take this and apply it to next year. It’s my last year, for a lot of us it’s our last year, so just leaving that legacy.”

Illinois finished last season 19-15 in year two under head coach Shauna Green.
