    Wings, Rebels, Pirates clash at 5AA swimming and diving meet

    The Armstrong/Cooper Wings, Champlin Park Rebels, and Park Center Pirates took to the pool lanes on Feb. 24 in the Section 5AA boys swimming and diving meet hosted at the Minnetonka Aquatic Center.

    The Armstrong/Cooper co-op team earned fifth overall at the Section 5AA meet with a score of 216.

    Will Francis provided thrills for the Wings with a first place finish in the section diving category with a score of 400.30 to earn 20 points, finishing ahead of a series of divers from Wayzata and Maple Grove, after also topping the preliminary standings.

    Abie Harris had a big day for Armstrong/Cooper, finishing sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.75 and ninth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.35.

    Beckett Nelson earned sixth with a time of 5:10.59 in the 500 freestyle, while Rowan Tierney earned eighth in the 50-yard free with a time of 23.06. Nelson also earned eighth in the 200 freestyle, while Tierney also earned ninth in the 100 freestyle event.

    Elliot Suby finished fifth in the 200 individual medley. JJ DeGroot earned an 11th-place finish in the 500 freestyle and an 11th finish in the 200 freestyle.

    Champlin Park

    The Rebels earned sixth at the Section 5AA meet last week, earning 201 points amid a meet stacked high with competitive performances.

    Kiptyn Helmrick had a busy and successful day, earning fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.58 and fifth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.66.

    Henry Finke earned ninth in both the 100 fly and the 200 IM with times of 57.40 and 2:09.67.

    Gavin Head earned 14th in the 100 freestyle, Nash Woodward earned eighth in the 100 breaststroke, and Hugh Nightingale earned 15th in the 50 freestyle.

    Park Center

    Park Center took on the Section 5AA meet last week, finishing in eighth place with a score of 81.

    The Pirates earned big results from the likes of Connor Hobot, Owen Ness, Tess Chapman, and Jackson Bennett. Hobot earned 14th in the 50 freestyle final with a time of 24.67, while Ness earned 11th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:17.92. Chapman finished 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.39.
