KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A man accused of killing his own mother and father appeared by video in Kanawha County Court Wednesday for a hearing regarding his case.

Takanao Kambara, who is being held at Sharpe Hospital, was denied a motion that would allow him the right to attend supervised trips. The judge cited concerns over safety as the reason for the denial.

It was also noted in court that supervisors would not have the legal authority to restrain him if things got out of hand on those trips.

Moving forward in the case, motions can still be brought up and evaluated every six months.

Kambara was found not guilty of the crime by reason of mental illness , but a judge ordered that he spend the rest of his life in a psychiatric facility. He was arrested on New Year’s Eve in 2020 after being accused of killing his parents at a home in Charleston. Deputies on scene said the victims were killed from apparent lacerations.

As part of the ruling on Kambara’s case, he will be mentally reassessed every so often, and if he is ever found mentally stable, he will go back to court.
