One Panthers vet is on a bubble that is set to burst heading into training camp

When the Carolina Panthers signed veteran running back Miles Sanders during the 2023 offseason, he was supposed to be the lead running back. And then he failed to produce.

Due to injuries and a lack of production, Sanders was usurped as the Panthers' lead running back by Chuba Hubbard, who enjoyed a breakout season amid a down year for Carolina.

Now, with training camp approaching, Sanders sits on the bubble. Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport believes he is the fourth most likely player to get cut at the start of training camp.

"When the Panthers gave Miles Sanders $25.4 million over four seasons last year to serve as Carolina's lead back, no one really batted an eye," Davenport writes . "After that calamitous 2023 campaign, the 27-year-old now appears no higher than third on the depth chart in the Panthers backfield.

"Releasing him wouldn't offer much in the way of cap relief, but with touches looking few and far between for Sanders, the Panthers may decide to just rip off the band-aid and be done with it."

Sanders was also A to Z Sports ' most likely Panthers player to be cut under similar logic.

The lack of production, the high price of the contract and the lack of a pathway forward leave the Panthers far more to be desired than what could be salvageable.

Already on the roster, the Panthers have Hubbard, rookie Jonathon Brooks, Raheem Blackshear and Mike Boone. Sanders appears to be the odd one out. But the veteran isn't loathing at his circumstance. He likes the competition.

"We had chemistry since I got in here last year starting with Chuba and Raheem (Blackshear). And now we got Jonathon, we got a couple of other new guys, we got (Rashaad) Penny, Penny in there too and (Mike) Boone," Sanders told reporters. "The guys are great. We all get along very well.

"We compete real good. And the chemistry in there, we all help each other to learn to the playbook."

Sanders is running out of time to prove himself.
