Bryce Young is still getting his feet under him amid the start of the 2024 training camp.

Thomas Davis, one of the Panthers' best outside linebackers of all time, thinks Young is primed for a great season.

On 4th & 1 with Cam Newton , Davis explained the offensive additions made by the Panthers throughout the offseason ought to make Young a more productive quarterback after a disastrous rookie season.

“I just think that the additions the Panthers made this offseason will definitely allow Bryce Young to be who he is as a football player,” Davis said. "Bryce Young was a winner. [He] Got to Alabama, got the opportunity to take the field, and he’s a winner. It doesn’t matter who they had around him. He made things happen. And that’s kinda the mindset that the Panthers took going into that season thinking, ‘Hey, Bryce can go out and he can get it done.'”

Young wasn't a winner during his rookie season, claiming only two victories amid an anemic 179.8 passing yards per game, 11 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions campaign.

It was a far cry from the point guard-like abilities he possessed at Alabama, where he could make seemingly make plays out of thin air.

In the NFL, life is different for quarterbacks. The game requires significant precision and timing – the same can't be said for the college game.

Davis achknowedlges that. However, he also remains confident that the changes made to the roster will allow Young to reach the upper echelons of his potential.

“But it’s a little different in the NFL,” he said. “Nowadays, upgraded their offensive line, they brought in some very, very viable receivers to make sure that he has the opportunity to be successful. And I think the defense is gonna be what it is. The defense has been consistent for a very long time in Carolina.”
