Barre, VT — The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers got the show started on Thursday with their rain-delayed second round of the Myers Container Service Triple Crown. The extra-distance affair began as front-row starters Cameron Ouellette and Brendan Moodie battled hard in the opening circuits, Moodie taking the early lead. Two-by-two three rows deep behind them saw a spirited battle between a six-pack of heavy hitters, riding it out in the early stages and waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce. Triple Crown point leader Sam Caron would bite the dust on lap 23 with a broken right-front suspension component sending him into the turn one wall with Adam Maynard and Matt Ballard piling in. After leading from the restart, Brendan Moodie would dominate his way to Myers Container Service victory lane with Jason Pelkey in second and Logan Power just barely edging Cameron Ouellette at the line for third.

High Court denies pre-trial release for man charged with Rutland officer’s murder
MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - The Vermont Supreme Court says the man accused of causing a crash that killed a Rutland Police should remain behind bars until his trial. Police say Tate Rheaume was fleeing from officers in July 2023 when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with Officer Jessica Ebbighausen’s cruiser, killing her. He is awaiting trial for aggravated murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence.

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - The World Soccer Festival is coming to Montpelier this weekend. The celebration of diversity through soccer began in 2010 when a Hyde Park Elementary PE teacher organized an event to celebrate the diversity of soccer and bring people together. Burlington breaks ground on new affordable housing project at former VFW site
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Burlington officials and affordable housing advocates gathered Friday to break ground on a new development that replaces the old VFW. The new building, dubbed Post APartments, is on South Winooski Avenue in the heart of Burlington and will rise out of the footprint of the old VFW Post 782. It will be home to 38 permanently affordable units with nine set aside for people experiencing homelessness, and five with a veterans preference.
