MOTORCYCLES TO ARRIVE IN RICHMOND TUESDAY TO HONOR SEARA BURTON
(Richmond, IN)--A large group of motorcycle riders will be coming into Richmond Tuesday afternoon and stopping at the Richmond Police Department for a couple of hours. It’s part of an event call the Beyond the Call of Duty Celebration. The riders are from Washington state and have traveled across the country with stops at departments where officers have died in the line of duty. Tuesday, they’ll honor Seara Burton. They’re expected to arrive at RPD headquarters at around 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.

City of Greenville holds tree-lottery
The City of Greenville Tree Commission is currently conducting a “Tree Lottery” that will offer (15) fifteen trees via a random drawing. At 1:00PM, on Tuesday, August 8, 2024, the commission will randomly select up to (15) fifteen recipients from the entries received at the Municipal Building to be awarded a tree, including the planting (which will be performed by the Street Dept.).
Final drop of date for the Gathering at Garst’s Mercantile approaches fast
The Last Chance Mercantile held during the annual Gathering at Garst is currently accepting donations. Last Chance Mercantile is a two-day tag sale on the grounds of the Garst Museum during the Gathering. This is a fundraiser for the Darke County Parks and all monies raised are greatly appreciated. This year’s event will take place on July 27 and 28.
Greenville Police Blotter
DOMESTIC: Officers were dispatched to the hospital in reference to a domestic violence/assault. The female victim had a swollen left eye, and she could barely hold it open. She also had blood running down from a cut on the top of her eye near the bridge of her nose. She said she showed up to her children’s fathers house to pick up her two kids. The victim said the father, Jesse York, was acting mean and hostile. He talked the victim into going into the residence to get her daughter who didn’t want to leave. Before she could find her daughter, she advised York “beat” her. A witness advised they had seen the two having a heated argument outside before going into the residence. A little while later, the witness said they saw the female running out, screaming, and holding her eye that had blood running down her face. When York is located, he will be issued citations for domestic violence and assault with both being a first degree misdemeanor.
Dog club offering fall classes
GREENVILLE — The Greenville Area Dog Club is gearing up for fall with a variety of classes starting on Sept. 3. Registration opens on July 22 and ends on Aug. 19. Whether you have a puppy, senior puppy, or a seasoned pooch, there’s a class for everyone. They offer puppy, senior puppy, beginner obedience, rally, trick, and agility. They also offer canine good citizen testing for dogs and owners who have completed obedience classes in the past.
BPL plans end of summer events
BRADFORD — Summer Reading adventures for all ages continue through the beginning of August. Here is what Bradford Public Library has planned for late July and August. POSSIBILITY OF NEW TAX DISCUSSED BY COUNCIL
(Richmond, IN)--During Monday night’s meeting of Richmond Common Council, there was some discussion of tax increment financing – or TIF. Here’s Council member Jerry Purcell talking about what could potentially lie ahead: "There is the opportunity for us - and I know how everyone feels about new taxes - but to approve a public safety tax." And, here’s why: "We're looking at a lot of big projects. The infrastructure is crumbling in our downtown. I think we have to be upfront and honest with the public," Purcell said.
