Search continues for person who jumped into the Appomattox while eluding Hopewell Police
HOPEWELL – The search is on for a fugitive who jumped into the Appomattox River early Tuesday morning after being approached by Hopewell Police. A water-rescue team from Chesterfield County was back out on the river after daylight near the Hopewell City Marina, Hopewell Police Lt. Jacquita Allen said in a statement. That’s where the unidentified individual ran and jumped into the water shortly after 2 a.m.

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -Property crime in the city is up 3% from this time last year, and shoplifting is a big part of that, with most of it coming from liquor shops. In the first half of 2024, there were 932 cases of shoplifting in the city. 477 of them, or 51% of the incidents, happened in an ABC store. The location by Virginia Commonwealth University, located at 1217 West Broad Street, experienced the crime the most, with 92 incidents happening there from January 1 through June 30.
