Virginia Flight School Closure Leaves Students Stranded
A flight school operating at Virginia’s Manassas Regional Airport/ Harry P. Davis Field abruptly shut down on Aug. 1, leaving several of its students stranded. Students from American Aviation Flight School, including Thida Aung, reached out to local news station FOX 5 seeking help. According to FOX 5 Aung had paid the flight school $100,000 up front for the school’s “Career Pilot Package,” which includes training sessions. However, Aung reported that the school’s owner, Kevin Rychlik, allegedly informed her that no refunds would be issued.
Menhaden fishery to get another look
New study to check if over-harvesting could be starving Va. ospreys. The saga of the future of Virginia’s menhaden reduction fishery on Chesapeake Bay continues to unfold as the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) Menhaden Management Board approved a motion on Tuesday, Aug. 6, that could lead to further regulations of the fishery.
Study finds “large gaps” in Richmond cooling location availability
A new report shows that people living in certain areas of Richmond are at a higher risk for heat related health emergencies. Richmond and Henrico Health Districts policy analyst Peter Braun researched how rising temperatures are hurting certain people living in the city. LL Flooring Files Chapter 11
LL Flooring Holdings Inc. (Richmond, Va.) said it has voluntarily entered Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The retailer intends to use that process to pursue a “going-concern” sale of its business to an interested party. Meantime, it also plans to close 94 of its 300 stores.
