Chicago White Sox reliever Steven Wilson is set to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. The right-hander is working toward returning from a back strain, which resulted in a trip to the 15-day injured list on May 22 (retroactive to May 20).

Acquired in the offseason as part of the Dylan Cease trade , Wilson has appeared in 21 games for the Sox this season. The 29-year-old owns a 2.84 ERA and 1.263 WHIP in 19 innings of work.

Wilson, with his 144 ERA+, has been somewhat of a bright spot in a dismal White Sox bullpen. He figures to return to a mid- to high-leverage role when he returns to Chicago after finishing his rehab assignment.

The Charlotte Knights continue their series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp with a doubleheader on Thursday. Wilson appears primed for multiple appearances throughout the weekend series, which could position him for a return to the White Sox as they embark on a West Coast road trip next week.
