A 36-year-old man was in good condition after being injured during an attack on a Red Line CTA train at Loyola Avenue, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., the victim was a passenger on a CTA train when someone approached him with a knife and attacked him for unknown reasons, police said.

The man suffered a laceration to the right cheek and nose, and was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was listed in good condition, police said.

According to a CTA statement, a preliminary review of railcar security camera footage revealed the victim and suspect involved in Monday night’s incident on the Red Line near Loyola were first  involved in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation. The victim was struck multiple times with a metal water bottle, before the offender exited at the next stop, the statement said.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
