CHICAGO — An investigation into a deadly shooting early Wednesday morning, apparently stemming from road rage, shut down the feeder ramp from Stony Island Avenue onto the northbound Bishop Ford Freeway in the South Deering neighborhood on the city’s South Side.

The ramp was reopened at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Illinois State Police confirmed.

ISP says one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was transported to a hospital for injuries received by gunfire following the shooting near the corner of East 95th Street and Stony Island Ave.

ShotSpotter technology alerted police to the shooting around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Police were focusing their attention on two vehicles at the scene, plus a tow truck near E. 95th St. There are no other details on the victims as of yet.

According to ISP, prior to officers arriving on the scene, a tow truck driver stopped to assist someone. An altercation, then the shooting, followed.

A witness told WGN News there was a brick or object blocking Stony Island Ave., and a driver may have received damage to their vehicle because of it. The witness believes the person thought the tow truck driver dropped the brick on Stony Island Ave., which led to the altercation and the shooting.

“He thought that the tow truck people put the brick there, so he got out of his car and started shooting at them,” the witness said. “They started returning back their fire at him and ended up killing him.”
