Former Tennessee right-handed stopper Aaron Combs is now officially a Chicago White Sox after coming to terms on a contract agreement Sunday morning.

According to MLB Pipeline senior writer Jim Callis , the pitcher signed for $250K when the slot value for the No. 229 overall pick in the eighth round of the 2024 Major League Draft was for $232,200. This means Combs signed for $17,800 above slot, a slot valued between the Twins’ No. 218 overall ($251,500) and Orioles’ No. 219 overall ($249,400) of the seventh round.

Combs, a College of Central Florida transfer, appeared in 24 games this season, making two starts . Over 45.2 innings pitched, he had a 3.35 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP. He struck out 66 against 23 walks, giving up 53 runs (45 earned) on 93 hits. Opposing batters hit .200 against him with eight doubles and three home runs.

The Sarasota, Fla., native, started his collegiate career at Coastal Carolina before transferring to the junior college ranks at College of Central Florida.

He made his debut at Tennessee in 2023, pitching 21.0 innings over 26 appearances. He had a 3.00 ERA with a 4-0 record, striking out 39 while allowing just four walks.

Combs recorded the final out in Tennessee’s 6-5 win over Texas A&M to win the national championship at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. He appeared in three College World Series games, pitching 8.1 innings.

The 2024 Major League Baseball Draft has come and gone and once again the Tennessee Volunteers received a strong showing with eight total draft picks and six commits or signees selected over the course of the three-day event.

Tennessee’s eight draft picks tied for second-most in program history and were two shy of the program-record of 10 set in 2022. The Vols led the country with four selections on day one Sunday night and with a total of eight by the end of day two on Monday.
