Kitten rescued from storm drain in Ross County

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A Ross County deputy rescued a kitten from a storm drain late Tuesday night.

The Ross County Sheriff’s Office discovered the cat — named Rushelle — on the 200 block of South Watt Street around eight feet down the storm drain after being flagged down by a mother and her child. Agents from the Fayette Regional Humane Society arrived on the scene by 10:51 p.m., but determined they didn’t have the proper equipment and requested a ladder.

Once the Scioto Township Fire Department arrived with a ladder, a sheriff’s deputy used it to descend into the storm drain and bring Rushelle back to the surface. By 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, the kitten had been safely taken to the Fayette Regional Humane Society and given a flea bath, meal and warm bed.

Rushelle is thin and has damaged teeth, according to the humane society, but is expected to make a full recovery. She was described as being in good health by the humane society’s executive director.
