Mike Ford, who batted .150 with a home run and 15 strikeouts in 62 plate appearances for the Cincinnati Reds earlier this season, signed Thursday with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, the team announced.

Ford was designated for assignment by the Reds in May. He elected free agency rather than accepting a minor-league assignment.

The Reds initially signed Ford as a free agent in February. They released and re-signed him in March, and again in May.

Ford impressed during spring training for the Reds, batting .455 with three homers in 33 at-bats.

In parts of six big-league seasons for the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Reds, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves, Ford has batted .205 with 37 home runs in 781 plate appearances. He hit 16 homers in 251 PAs last season for the Mariners.
