Rookie Sensation, Rece Hinds, Makes MLB History With The Cincinnati Reds

    By Cole Sullivan,

Cincinnati Reds rookie Rece Hinds is off to one of the most memorable and historic starts in the history of Major League Baseball, and it continued Saturday evening with a win over the Miami Marlins.

Hinds has eight extra base hits through his first six games, which is the most by any player since at least 1901. Hinds helped the Reds to another victory by homering twice on Saturday.

He has been a big leaguer for a total of six days, and in those six days, the former 2nd round pick has managed to have nine total extra base hits, five home runs, a grand slam, a multi-home run game, and a game with all three types of extra base hits.

Nobody in the history of the sport has done all of that or even remotely close to that in a six-day span. The craziest thing about it all is that Hinds truly came out of nowhere with this type of production.

During his stint in Triple-A with the Louisville Bats, Hinds was a solid asset and was having an all-around good season with 13 home runs and 41 RBI, hitting a respectable .216 with a .699 OPS in 296 at bats.

Now, eventually he will come back down to earth, but just to give you an idea of how dominant this run has been, in his first 22 at bats, Hinds is hitting .500 with a 1.951 OPS.

The Cincinnati Reds wrap up their series with the Marlins on Sunday, which is the final game before the all-star break. Hinds has surely made his mark as to why he should remain in the big leagues from here on out.
