Yankees have interest in trade deadline deal for Reds infielder, per report

The New York Yankees reportedly have interest in Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

According to Jorge Castillo of ESPN , the Yankees have shown interest in making a potential trade for the 27-year-old, but the Reds are still weighing their options.

Considering they are right in the thick of the National League wild-card race, Cincinnati has yet to decide if it will buy or sell at the deadline.

Adding India to the roster would be one of the better moves the Yankees could make at the deadline. He's a perfect fit for the clubhouse, and his offensive prowess at second base would be welcomed.

Even though Gleyber Torres has enjoyed a small resurgence with a .300 batting average and .801 OPS over his last 17 games, it shouldn't be enough to keep the Yankees from upgrading.

India is enjoying a strong season with a .275 batting average and .789 OPS to go along with elite plate discipline that includes a 12.7% walk rate (94th percentile), 17.4% chase rate (99th percentile) and an 18.8% whiff rate (82nd percentile).

India also would improve the Yankees' defense at second base, giving them a formidable duo up the middle.

The Yankees may not get the chance to add India if the Reds consider themselves a playoff team, but he would be a strong addition at the deadline.
