Zac Taylor reveals which position group on the Cincinnati Bengals' roster deserves more praise

An eventful two weeks of training camp for the Cincinnati Bengals has garnered plenty of acclaim. Young wideouts are making plays . First-round pick Amarius Mims looks the part. Vonn Bell is firmly back where he belongs .

Which part of the team is getting left out in the cold? Head coach Zac Taylor looks to the backfield on offense.

Taylor told Kay Adams that his running backs, specifically Zack Moss and Chase Brown, are deserving of more praise for leading a new-look group.

"I think our running backs aren't getting enough love," Taylor said on Adams' show Up & Adams . "I think those guys are doing a good job. They're really smart. They understand what we're trying to get out of the position. If you look at Chase [Brown] and Zack [Moss], they complement each other really well."

Very few aspects of Taylor's team over the past five years remained as consistent as the personnel for the running back position. Joe Mixon led the group from before Taylor took over in 2019, and while the scheme has seen a handful of makeovers, the composition remained largely the same with Mixon front-lining the group.

All that is changed now that Mixon is onto another chapter with the Houston Texans. Moss was signed to partner up with Brown, and the two appear to be very comfortable in Cincinnati's offense.

It's little surprise Moss is locked in. He told Adams himself back in March that the Bengals' offense matched his skillset.

"Cincy just made the most sense," Moss told Adams . "From the structure of the offense and how the offense is played, and kind of the scheme of the offense and what they want to do. It's a lot of shotgun offense, a lot of inside zone gap scheme runs and things of that nature."

Brown has been the center of a nice offseason story in his own right. He trained alongside teammate Andrei Iosivas with a receiver specalist for weeks to get better catching passes out of the backfield. The results are definitely showing.

“Consistency — it’s my favorite training camp word.” Taylor told Bengals Radio Personality Dan Hoard . “Chase has been very consistent, and that’s what we’re counting on from him.”

It can't all be Joe Burrow dropping back 60 times a game for the Bengals to get back to the playoffs. Having a solid run game to support him will be crucial. That sounds like the expectation coming from the top of the staff.
