The Miami Marlins played the third game of their four-game series with the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night and won 6-4. This game started well for Miami and then they had to do some heavy lifting to hold on.
The Marlins offense performed better compared to the last two games. They got eight hits, including two solo home runs by Jake Burger for his 18th and 19th of the season. In between, there was a grand slam hit by Derek Hill, who was acquired by Miami via trade with the San Francisco Giants.
Valente Bellozo pitched for the Marlins and got his first win of the season. He didn't give up a run in five and two-thirds innings pitched. All he allowed was five hits and two walks, and he struck out four batters.
Meanwhile, for the Reds, Andrew Abbott didn't have a good start on Wednesday. He allowed six runs on six hits, walked three batters, and struck out seven. The first five runs came in the first inning. The Reds would then attempt to play catch up by hitting a grand slam of their own by TJ Friedl. They had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning but didn't score.
The Marlins are now 43-72 while the Reds stand at 55-59, putting their National League wild-card catch-up at a temporary halt.
These two teams will conclude the series on Thursday, Aug. 8. The Reds will send Hunter Greene to the mound against Kyle Tyler for the Marlins.
