The City of Orange Police Department received complaints Monday of scammers contacting residents in reference to “urgent legal matters.”

The caller is misidentifying himself as “Sgt. Chuck Steele” with “Orange County PD.”

This caller is urging residents to call 409-420-3458.

According to Orange Police Lt. Stephen Ward, “this, or any variation of such, is a scam.”

“The City of Orange Police Department is not contacting citizens regarding urgent legal matters,” Ward confirmed. “If you feel like you were a victim to this scam, please contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 409-883-1095.”
