Q&A: Filmmaker and former Saint Rose faculty member Jaime Iglehart discusses 'Goodbye Dear Neighbor' doc on school's closure
ALBANY — On June 30, The College of Saint Rose in Albany closed its doors for the final time. The school’ closure was shocking to some, but others saw the writing on the wall when the campus closed its music and art department in 2022. But what comes out of a school closure, and how truly harrowing are the statistics born from it? One such study from the National Student Clearinghouse and the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association found that only 47.1% of students from a closed school go on to enroll in a new one, and just 36.8% of those students go on to graduate. And, while these numbers tell a story just by themselves, Jaime Iglehart, a former faculty member at Saint Rose, seeks to evaluate this closure on a micro and macro level with her documentary, “Goodbye Dear Neighbor.”
