When we created this segment, it was with athletes such as Guilderland Track and Field's Kendall Barnhart in mind.
The Albany Firebirds Have Their Sights Set On ArenaBowl 33
They were forged in fire and now they're headed to ArenaBowl 33! After this Saturday's win against the Selina Liberty, the Albany Firebirds punched their ticket to play for the AFL Championship against the Billings Outlaws in East Rutherford, NJ. The game will be played at American Dream which is part of the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Kick-off is set for 5:30pm!
UAlbany Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Class of 2024
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany Department of Athletics has announced the induction of four individuals and one team to the UAlbany Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The inductees represent a total of five of the Great Danes' varsity programs spanning the Division I and III eras.
Dawgs Snap Losing Streak, Sweep Albany
LITTLE FALLS, NY – The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs got revenge for a rained-out doubleheader on Thursday by scoring 18 runs over two games on Saturday. The Diamond Dawgs also snapped a three-game losing streak by sweeping the Albany Baseball Club, 6-1 and 12-2. Game One was scoreless until the third when Justin Hurd (Warwick, NY/SUNY Albany) smashed his fourth home run of the season over the left-field fence. His monster blast also scored Ryan Frontera (Red Bank, NJ/Seton Hall) and Brody Rasmussen (Meridian, ID/Maine). The home run also ties Hurd for the team home run lead with Rasmussen.
500 riders participate in the Cycle the Erie Canal bicycle ride
An estimated 500 riders participated in the Cycle the Erie Canal bicycle ride from Buffalo to Albany that started July 7. Volunteers in Spencerport hosted a water station and welcomed riders as they passed through the village on Monday, July 8. Many of the riders stopped for lunch at local eateries as evidenced by all the bikes parked along Union Street.

Women’s Soccer Announces 2024 Season Schedule
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women's soccer team and head coach Sade Ayinde have officially released the 2024 season schedule. "We cannot wait to get back competing this fall after adding ten new players to a strong returning group that is coming off a productive spring semester of growth," said Ayinde. "Our schedule features a lot of in-state competition, starting with an exhibition against Syracuse, a season opener against LIU, and finishing with Binghamton."
UAlbany to host Cornell in 2025
The UAlbany Great Danes announced their 2024 football schedule earlier this year, and it included a non-conference contest on the road against the Cornell Big Red. That contest is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024 at Schoellkopf Field in Ithaca, N.Y. The game will mark the second meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
